Mainstream becoming Whole-Brained
Dynamics of Paradigm Change
Fortunately, this failing experiment of resurrecting a failed past has just about run its course in repeating that failure and then some. The displacing of socially improving societies in favour of socially deteriorating, hard left-brain economies, has created a proliferation of local, societal, national, trans-national and global problems, many of which were already being looked into and addressed during the 1970s. Under the left-brain industrial-revolution paradigm, these problems have been ignored, denied, ridiculed, argued against, regarded as irrelevant, or considered un-addressable (which they are under that obsolete paradigm), until they have now become so bad, they are now forcing society to make belated, real-world, intelligent responses, with meaningful, measurable and helpful outcomes. The financial meltdown is not likely to revive until a new system is created that is in keeping with the new paradigm of human upliftment and ecological enhancement.
The relevance, necessity and urgency of sustainable living was seen by many, several decades ago at the prevention stage, and is now becoming accepted in mainstream circles as we move from the prevention stage and into the correction and cure stage. This will result in people assuming greater personal responsibility for all aspects of their lives, incorporating a greater appreciation and understanding of vastly improved ways of living, and adjusting their personal lives accordingly. The overuse, misuse, abuse and waste of resources will move towards conscious constraint and highly effective responsible usage.
Right-Brain in Mainstream Culture
Right-brain functioning is not foreign or strange. It is what babies and untraumatised young children enjoy, which we refer to as innocence. Western societies have always understood the need for right-brain stimulation and activity, hence the tradition of sponsoring the arts, etc. Even the use of the court jester of long ago, was created to break the King’s left-brain obsession, when he was missing the point when attempting to address real problems. A paradox is a left-brain contradiction and a right brain consistency. The ‘Eureka!’ experience is a moment of right brain entry, as is satori in the east. Humour often appears funny through a clash, and then a union, between left and right brain understandings.
The nature of all truly intimate relationships, beyond infatuation etc, is whole-brained, which renders every part of a person’s organism vibrant and radiant, as the person becomes flooded with goodwill, love and compassion. To the mystic, it is the time when God truly becomes alive within them, and enlivens them. When this is lacking, it is lacking to the extent that the left-brain paradigm has overridden and blocked out any right brain contribution.
Led by Children and Youth
Mainstream society is today becoming whole-brained through their children. Today, many right-brained, and potentially whole-brained, school-children are classed as ADD or ADHD, because they are tuning-out of, and turning away from, a very antiquated and outmoded left-brain paradigm that they find inadequate to their real life and inner needs, with much assistance from junk food and food additives. Today this paradigm, with its slow, antiquated, sequential, deductive learning processes, requires increasing amounts of propping up through even more repetition, rote learning and recall, resulting in many extra hours of homework, which they find irrelevant, unpleasant, mind numbing and boring. It does not address any of the personal, local, societal and global problems that stare them in the face everyday, and press upon their lives. It does not help them live their lives, and it does not even begin to fulfil them. When the baby boomer generation went to school, there was much focus on creating a better future. Education today is too much about perpetuating the same problems that are already taking away their future.
The current spate of programs to re-engage ‘drop-outs’, in what does not excite or stimulate them and appears to them irrelevant, is unlikely to do very much in the face of a failing and dying paradigm. Chances are that the kind of things that are written about in this book will interest and excite quite a few of them. The recent widespread chemical-medical intervention of amphetamine-based drugs as a way of suppressing right brain activity, instead of using something natural, has failed to help in many cases, and has caused significant long term damage in some instances.
This situation is analogous to the work of Freud, which he saw as readjusting neurotic people back into a neurotic society, that they had opted out of for understandable reasons. During the 1950s and 1960s, higher-level psychologies emerged, following the emergence of higher functioning people. More people began changing as society improved and were able to add to the momentum of change, then the general understanding changed, and the whole paradigm began to change, until forcefully changed back in the 1980s.
Today, these children are being born all over the world, and have become of great interest in Russia and China, where they are being regarded as potential super-beings. Many of them come with the capacity to multi-task, and with a range of highly developed whole-brain abilities, and some are already relating to life in a new, positive and creative way. Some are emerging as an advanced variation of the flower children of a recent era, described earlier in this book, but with even more advanced intuitive and visionary capacities.
In the west, they are welcomed by those in the know, as indigo, crystal and rainbow children, depending on the period when born, and how right-brained or whole-brained they are, and other, more advanced factors beyond the scope of this preliminary discussion. These children are treated by those who do understand, with gentleness and consideration, being recognised as especially sensitive beings, who by maintaining their integrity, can be trusted to discover their own appropriate, higher-level solutions, and even become our sustainable future. Even as young children they can lighten the general atmosphere.
Ongoing Conscious Evolution
The process of conscious evolution as described earlier in this book has not ceased. Rather, it has kept out of sight of an unsympathetic and incompatible mainstream, which went off on a tangent to re-discover what already failed, and is now caught in its own self-contradictions and stuck for real solutions. This it must become before left-brain thinking will become receptive to innovative and creative possibilities.
Australia is a country where many people carry unhealed emotions in their subconscious, and emotional defensiveness is regarded as normal human behaviour. Some would even have to be actual human nature, instead of what it really is, which is serious human disfunction that is how most people unwittingly suppress right-brain functioning. Under the law of “what you do to another, you do unto your own inner being”, we are called upon to love our neighbours and one another, if only for our own sake, although everything else benefits as well.
Aboriginal people are our original peoples who successfully took care of the continent for tens of millennia. They also represent, by extension, the emotional aspect of our nation, In being negative in any way towards them, we mistreat our own emotional, right-brain consciousness, as well contributing towards maintaining a demoralised national psyche, which is then compensated for through an obsession with elite sporting prowess, as if that really meant something.
Only wholistic solutions from a higher paradigm will solve the increasing global and local problems. All real solutions for human difficulties will always be highly ethical, have only gentle means, be uplifting of all people and be good for the planet. Anything involving force only brutalises and unbalances, will not sustain, and will remove the joy that makes life worth living. Aborigines, who are a naturally joyful people, have had many decades of grim, failed, non-solutions, forcefully-imposed by people who believed at the time that life was inherently grim, difficult and joyless, that people could not be trusted, and all fun was to be eschewed. The smart solution would have been to let the local Aboriginal people show them how life can also be fun, and out of that create whole-brain solutions that nourish, fulfil, sustain and endure.
